I used to panic when the voice on the GPS said, “You’ve been re-routed”. Especially when I was heading to an important appointment, or I was running late. But, I always ended up at my destination. I was just being led to the destination via a different route.
There’s no doubt that you are being re-routed, too. The barriers are coming at you in many forms …
the master schedule needs to be changed AGAIN due to unfilled vacancies;
the protocol for lunch that everyone just got used to is changing TOMORROW; and
the buses are running late because two drivers called out.
I could go on and on … but you get the picture. What’s amazing about you is that you don’t let it bother you. Unlike me … you don’t panic when you hear, “You’ve been re-routed”.
Why is that?
Because your GPS is set.
You have a FOCUS.
You have a PLAN.
You have a GOAL.
Keep going. Undoubtedly, there are going to be more barriers. And at least a thousand more times this year, you are going to be re-routed. Don’t get discouraged. Put both hands on the steering wheel and keep going.
Yes, your GPS has been re-routed, but …
It will still get you to your focus (that one thing you want students to know and be able to do).
You have a plan and an ILT who is supporting you in executing the plan.
And, most important of all, you have your goal …
All students … no exceptions.
There’s no barrier big enough that’s going to stop you now.
Put the car on cruise control and enjoy the ride.
