Everyone says it right now.
“It’s that time of year.”
Testing. Hiring. Budgets. Deadlines. Fatigue.
They’re not wrong. This is one of the hardest stretches of the year to lead. And that’s real. It’s heavy. But here’s where it becomes a problem:
When leaders center their leadership on how hard it is, it doesn’t stay contained. It spreads.
- Expectations soften
- Urgency fades
- Focus drifts
What starts as a reality becomes the culture.
Leadership is always contagious.
Right now, more than ever. If the message, spoken or unspoken, is:
- “Just get through it”
- “We’ll tighten this up next year”
- “This is a tough time”
…people respond accordingly. Not because they don’t care. Because they’re following the lead.
Strong leaders don’t ignore the difficulty.
They just refuse to anchor in it. They acknowledge the hard and then refocus the work.
They:
- Protect the priority
- Hold the line on expectations
- Bring clarity when things feel scattered
Not perfectly. But consistently. Because leadership isn’t about managing the moment. It’s about shaping what’s next.
This season doesn’t just test leadership. It reveals it.
What you normalize now becomes what your team carries forward:
- Into next year
- Into classrooms
- Into student experience
So in the middle of all of this, it’s worth asking yourself:
→ What am I centering right now – the pressure or the priority?
→ What tone am I setting without realizing it?
→ If my team mirrors me, what are they picking up?
“It’s that time of year” may be true. But leadership that sticks doesn’t lower the bar in hard seasons. It keeps the focus.
Every student.
Every classroom.
Every day-no exceptions.
