Well, well – true confession.
Last week got away from me. No excuses. It was just “one of those weeks”.
So without further ado, let’s jump into our new and important series:
I would say that one might define me as a data junkie. I love data. I know that sentence seems strange – typically love and data go together as well as vinegar and oil.
I’m sure you are thinking “why does she love data”? The answer is pretty simple to me:
However, data has not always been my friend. And there was a period of time when I didn’t love data. I looked at it as a nuisance. A check-off-the-box task. Not until I realized that once again, my approach was wrong.
My colleague once told me that I didn’t like data because (drum roll please):
I never moved off of the analysis portion of the cycle and into action.
My colleague was correct. I spent so many hours looking at, admiring, yelling at, and defending the data – that I forgot about the most important questions that should be the heart of all data conversations:
What’s not working?
How will we respond to both?
As your BOY data begins to come in, I thought it would be really important to use this space to talk about moving to the most important of the data cycle: the action part.
For starters, click here for a tool that can help you make sense of the data so that next week we can talk about ways to act on that data. Feel free to download this tool to use at your next ILT meeting.
On Friday, we will talk about some of the ways to use this tool as a starting point that will ultimately lead to action.
