Finishing Strong: Message from our Leaders at Unsworth Elementary
From Downey, Unsworth Elementary principal Kelley Rush-Becker is action-focused in her attempts to push her staff and students to have a good final stretch (and a productive summer).
With only two weeks left of school, we have so much to celebrate! You’ve worked hard to build relationships with your students and their families. They’ve listened to you and they’re still listening. I challenge you to think about ways you can make a last impression that will take your students through the summer months. Here are a few ideas you might try:
1. Brainstorm ways to stay engaged in learning over the summer. Have students set and write personal goals for themselves. Provide a list of internet places to visit or apps that will be helpful.
2. Have the kids reflect on their own learning. What obstacles did they overcome? What is something they will never forget? What do they look forward to in the upcoming year?
3. Try finding something great in each one of your students. Have a celebration day with food, music, certificates, and games to honor the success each child has made.
On a personal note, I am so proud of all you have accomplished and the dedication and love you have for our students! Thanks for a fabulous year!
“Starting strong is good. Finishing strong is epic!”
